Mosquito Screen – An Alternative to the Mosquito Net?

MOSQUITO SCREEN – AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE MOSQUITO NET?

With an abundance of anti-mosquito products on the market, choosing one can be tricky. However, if you filter them out based on how safe they are, you may not be left with a lot of options. In the market, mosquito nets and mosquito screens are two of the safest options to get rid of mosquitoes. While mosquito nets have been there for a long time, the same is not the case with mosquito screens. Mosquito screens have recently arrived in the market, and that’s why they are less popular too. So, in today’s blog, we will compare these two products and see if a mosquito screen is an alternative to the mosquito net.

Durability

If we compare the materials of both the mosquito net and the mosquito screen, the material of the mosquito screen is more durable. This is because a mosquito screen is mostly made up of firm materials like fine aluminium mesh. On the other hand, mosquito nets are mostly made of materials like nylon and polyester. Hence, in the long run, mosquito nets may get damaged early.

Usage

Mosquito nets are usually put on the bed to keep the mosquitoes out of your sleeping area. However, the mosquito screen, which basically is a mosquito net for windows and doors, is fixed with the help of a frame. So, they will never move and keep the mosquitoes out of your house, not only the sleeping area.

Portability

If we compare the mosquito net and screen on the basis of portability, the mosquito net will surely win. The reason is that these nets can be folded and fit in a very small container like a bag. At the same time, a mosquito screen comes in a fixed shape and size. Thus, folding it is not possible. However, the purpose of a mosquito screen is to keep the windows and doors blocked for the mosquito, so being portable may not make a lot of sense. For example, if you want to get rid of mosquitoes in your house, then all the windows and doors should be enclosed with the mosquito screen. So you can’t put the screen in one room to get rid of mosquitoes, so shift it to another room to get rid of mosquitoes there.

Cost

Mosquito nets for beds cost less than mosquito net doors. The reason is that they are made of cheaper material, as mentioned above. Polyester and nylon don’t cost as much as aluminium. On the other hand, the mosquito net for the balconies, doors and windows has a higher upfront cost as the materials used come at a premium price. Also, you can install a mosquito net over your bed by yourself, but installing a mosquito screen may require the help of a professional. So, it may also add up some cost. However, based on the durability of both of these products, the cost may balance each other as mosquito screens are more durable than mosquito nets.

Final Verdict

In conclusion, mosquito screens are an alternative to mosquito nets. But there are a few things that you should consider. Since mosquito screens are costly, you should only install them if you face a lot of mosquitoes daily. Otherwise, mosquito nets are good, too.
